Frequently Asked Questions
Who pays the Administrative Law Judge?
The ALJ is paid by the Municipality.

In most Cities they are not considered employees but rather sub contractors. As sub contractors they receive no pension, no sick days, no health care benefits and no vacation time. Obviously, these Judges would like to have the same benefits the Police, Traffic Agents and Parking Agents have but, they usually do not.

Therefore, it is important to note that some ALJ's have lobbied their respective municipalities to step up to provide the same level of benefits to the Judges as the municipalities offer to the parking ticket issuers. To date, that is not generally the case.

In certain cities like New York, they are required to be Attorneys and they generally only work part time.
